Sharon Salzberg is a long-time meditation practitioner and teacher in the buddhist tradition. In her recent book, “Real Happiness: The Power of Meditation a 28 Day Program” she discusses the topics of what is real happiness and loving-kindness. Ms. Salzberg explains that happiness need not be conditional. It is not about winning awards or gaining material things. Happiness is unconditional and can be accessed through the practice of meditation. It is difficult to meditate sometimes; returning to the breath over and over again develops loving-kindness. This type of love is not mushy and gushy but open and gentle. It helps us access real happiness.
